The full name of the cooperative is Abateraninkunga ba Sholi. Abateraninkunga means ‘mutual assistance’ in Kinyarwanda and represents the farmers commitment to working together in a positive way. Female empowerment is embedded in the cooperative’s foundations. Sholi was initially formed from women’s associations. Its president, Jeanne, is a compelling spokes- person and advocate on the importance of women participating in coffee production and sales onequal terms to men. Sholi has a very professional and friendly approach to marketing their coffee, and is very proactive at sharing information and welcoming visitors to the cooperative.
