Peru

a country full of diversity!

Started the coffee tour in Lima. Lima is by far the largest city in Peru and is also the capital of the country. On my travel time (October), the city is dressed in high fog, due to the coast still beautiful.

To get to the coffee areas we drove 400km inside the country. Our way leads us over the famous Andes. Just before the highest passable point of the mountain, we take a short break and drink a blood-thinning tea and add sugar. The reason for this is that we are almost at 5000 meters above sea level and the oxygen is thin. The landscape of the Andes is breath-taking; you can see barren areas, the jungle and huge flower fields (which are intended for export).

Arrived in Pichanaki we visited a cooperative; the Coop. is quite empty at the time of the year because we are at the end of the shipment period. However, we are still warmly welcomed and we have the chance to visit the whole processing plants. Continue to Villa Rica with a short detour to visit a private garden full of orchids. It was a spontaneous visit but the owner was delighted to show his hobby. In addition to the overwhelming selection of different orchids, it was the dog that was our personal highlight because it was called "Schatzi" and this in the middle of Central Peru.

Arrived in Villa Rica on the Finca Rosenheim. The farm belongs to a Swiss family, who cultivate the farm with great passion. At the time of our visit, the harvest volume was one container- today, 3 years later, they can produce 2 containers. They spend a lot of time and work in reforestation; better shade trees were planted and invested in infrastructure and irrigation. I had the chance to see the harvested coffee just before the export. 1 week after our visit, the coffee (still in the pergamino) drove to Lima to get the final preparation and go into the export.

After 4 days in the jungle, on coffee plantations and at mills, it goes back home.
