Bienvenido Peru
Fantastic News from San Ignacio...
These outstanding coffees, rated with more than 84 SCA points, are grown close to the Ecuadorian border in the Cajamarca Region. They have been produced by smallholder farmers of CASIL Cooperative (Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera CASIL Ltda).
Peru is one of the leading coffee-producing countries in the world, with half of the country’s 24 districts producing coffee. Seventy-five percent of this land lies high in the mountains, at 1.300 meters or higher, meaning that the Typica, Caturra and Bourbon varieties grown there travel down steep slopes on donkeys, bicycles, carts, and farmers’ backs to make it to the dry mills. With clay soil and a day to night temperature between 16 to 20 Celsius, San Ignacio has ideal natural conditions to cultivate rich but very balanced coffees.
Another key part of what makes Peru’s coffee so unique are the farmers that grow it. Peru is a land of smallholders organized around cooperatives. 4 out of 5 producers farm on fewer than 10 hectares of land, and the majority of these farms fall inbetween 2 to 5 acres. For most farmers, coffee is their sole source of income.
Get to know for example Santos Acha Rivera from Finca el Credo and some of the other farmers and discover some of the best coffees from Peru.
